Job Exchange

Hello Everyone.
Possibly best to reply to this personally.
This is probably only of interest to a small number of US teachers.

I teach in an all Boys School in a city in the South Island of NZ.
Physics and General Science.
Been teaching on and off since 1978. Physics, Science, Computing,
Mathematics (order of preference)

I'm investigating two possibilities for
1998.
1. A job swap - possibly house and car as well??
2. Doing a Teacher fellowship in the US. A Teacher Fellowship is
paid for by The Royal Society here. I get my usual wage to do
do something. (Which I decide) in some host organisation somewhere.
As far as I know there is no precident for doing it outside NZ - but
I'm asking anyway. So I'm looking for a host. A university, school
or research place. My idea is to develop some classroom demos,
simulations, AV resources or whatever for a few real world Physics-
technology researches - distilling something out useful for teaching.
Or to do some writing in the History of Science for the classroom.

In the Boston Area. (We have friends there)

Is there a place some sort of clearing house for this kind of
arrangement?? An address in some professional association somewhere??

Do any of you have any suggestions?? Visa requirements may take a
year to work through. I think I'd be available after October (I will
probably have UNiversity exams to take here)

We have four kids - we'd also plan a holiday trip(s) - and I'd like
to visit the best in the way of teacher's conferences in science
physics computers as well. (What's the best way to find out about
these??)

Lastly, any advice related to the above ideas would be of interest.

I've actually had a pretty tiring last six years. One of the goals
I've put on my TF application is to get some Rest and Refreshment in
professional areas to return revitalised. I nearly put "to go into
the next millenium" but I felt that was a bit pretentious!!

Postscript. My wife is into Music and French. I'll also be looking
for contacts she can follow up. For that I'll probably have to hit
the Web.

Thanks in Advance.

Derek.
