ANNOUNCEMENT (please print for colleagues, re-post on your
regional AAPT or LPA listserv, put in your LPA newsletter, etc.)

Leadership Modeling Workshops for high school physics reform:

Four-week workshops for 2 summers are open to 140 exceptionally
motivated high school teachers nationwide who wish to contribute
to physics teaching reform. $1200 stipend each summer + travel,
housing & meal allowance. Graduate credit available. Apts for
families. Competitive selection; we give guidelines. Teams okay,
from same school or city. Several openings for post-secondary
teachers. NSF-funded.

Choose among these sites & years:
Phase IIa: 1997-98 at Arizona State U, U of Wisconsin at
River Falls, & U of Akron, Ohio. July 7-Aug.1, 1997.
Must apply by Feb. 20, 1997.
Phase IIb: 1998-99 at 3 sites nationwide.
Must apply by Feb. 1998.

The modeling method corrects weaknesses of the traditional
lecture-demonstration method, including the fragmentation
of knowledge, student passivity, and the persistence of
naive beliefs. MBL and/or CBL techniques are used extensively.
Internet access is desirable.
