I need information on a computer application called LATEX that supports
technical writing. If anyone out there can point me in the right
direction I would appreciate it.

If you are a Macintosh person you should find the application "OzTex"
satisfactory for your purpose. latex per se is only available on unix
boxes.

OzTex for the Macintosh is available via anonymous ftp from
midway.uchicago.edu in the ~ftp/pub/tex/macintosh directory.
