Dear Jane:
You really hit the nail on its head! Congratulations! The only
point I somewhat disagree is that this issue, the population and the
exponential function, is strongly tied to physics. It is really
mathematics (y = 2^x), and since multiplying by 2 is not really
high advanced mathematics either, it could AND SHOULD be taught
also in Biology, sociology and political science.
