Re: [Phys-L] decibels

UCSB has one (and at least one other campus, all likely available), and when I worked for NPS [1], I set up equipment in theirs.

p.s. As one should imagine, acoustics is “big” at NPS Physics. They have a small echoic room where students find the resonances.[2] The have, not for swimming, pools, an artificial beach, water wave guides; the sides are lined w/ styrene foam, until water logged, absorbing.

[1] Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. Since 2001, it’s difficult to enter the campus. (Armed Army GIs, they examine the under side of ’biles.)
[2] Which reminds me of the hollow pillars at the Palace of Fine Arts wherein Paul Doherty of the Exploratorium would find the resonance using a low freq. type marimba. Very loud; high Q cavity.

Neat!

Are there similar rooms/labs in the US open to the public or science
