Though not expressly mentioned (at least I didn't see it), Modeling kept
coming into my mind as the embodiment of the approach that 'worked'.
Absolutely, no real learning tales place passively; the student MUST
interact with the material. As has traditionally been the case, SOME
students will do that naturally and do well as a result. Many will not.
Consequently, at the high school level, where a broader cross-section of
students is found, a more active approach is key to generating student
success. Telling is not teaching.
