Re: [Phys-L] Stubborn brain habits

The backwards bike matches my experience in learning/using the DVORAK
keyboard. During my training, I was not able to attain total immersion, as
occasionally I would have to use the "normal" QWERTY keyboard layout. As a
result, (1) it took longer to learn DVORAK than it should have, but (2) I
am able to switch back and forth by flipping a mental switch.

My guess is that Destin could do the same thing with a little practice.
Like John Denker said in another message: "Thereafter switching will get
asymptotically easier and less error-prone."

I wonder how similar this is to the process of adapting to reversing
glasses. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perceptual_adaptation (That was
Helmholtz? I didn't realize that.)
