Right.

Such things are reasonably common. For example, the volume
knob on your audio equipment is almost certainly logarithmic.
The "halfway point" (in perceptual units) is almost certainly
the geometric mean between the loudest and softest points
(in physics units: either sound pressure level or power,
your choice).

Let's do both!
Entertainment sites can have a huge effect on public attitudes toward science.

Possibly constructive suggestion: Post a link to "Cosmic
Voyage". Post it to wimp.com and see how many people like
it. It contains a sequence of size scales, with logarithmic
steps, in the Boeke tradition. At one point it even mentions
"nucleus" and "dust" in the same sentence, so it answers
some of the questions that started this thread. It was put
together by professionals who were trying to be both entertaining
and informative. Very good production values. It was nominated
for an Academy Award but didn't win. Decent HD video seems

Even better video may be available elsewhere; I haven't
