Joseph Curtin, an elite luthier whose shop is in Michigan, must be
feeling some gratification. A double blind test of Guanarii, Stradivarii
and some top class modern violins produced an elite soloists'
comparative evaluation distinctly in favor of a particular modern
violin, and generally in favor of modern violins.
Curtin produces bespoke violins which go for $40 thousand on up.
Some of the classic violins are valued between $10 and $40 million and
on down.
