The prime source for "clean" lead pre-nuclear testing used to be the ballast
from old ships. There is certainly a limited supply of the stuff.

I recently read an article re: physics research vs. history.
Lead ingots from the Romans of historical interest and useful
for physics, because non-contaminated by nuclear. This
puzzles, as mined (sequestered for millennia) is also
radioactive free (from testing and Japan). Furthermore
doesn't natural lead also contain Pb daughters from the
several radioactive series?
