[Phys-L] Laws of Goodhart, Campbell, and Dunkenfeld

Phillip Keller (2014) in his Phys-L post "Goodhart's Law" wrote:

"A former student of mine pointed me at this (from Wikipedia): *Goodhart's law* is named after the banker who originated it, Charles Goodhart <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Goodhart>. Its most popular formulation is: "When a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure. . . . . . . . . . . . "

And one must not forget the related laws::

Dukenfield's Law <http://bit.ly/bsRokM>: "If a thing is worth winning, it's worth cheating for."

Campbell's Law <http://bit.ly/hMsyUr>: "The more any quantitative social indicator is used for social decision making, the more subject it will be to corruption pressures and the more apt it will be to distort and corrupt the social processes it is intended to monitor."
