If an experiment is regarded as dangerous there needs to be a policy/ procedure statement. e.g. safety glasses, gloves, fire extinguisher etc spelled out with risk analysis.

At UCSC all labs (chem.) require ABSOLUTELY full coverage safety goggles -- I think that's the case in my former HS.

Also no contacts. The chem. staff cheque the shower and eye wash periodically.

The new (about 15 years ago) rule is do not stay to fight the fire; alarm and leave the building. One person is delegated to verify everyone is out (bc then).

THE DEBATE continues here though. If one person is hurt in outdoor Ed: do you shut down the program??

The recommendation about new motorcyclists: have a minor accident soon then safe driving will follow. So, of course not (stop program), the smart people learn from their mistakes, the geniuses from others.
