I'm having a hard time visualizing this. Are you floating the bowl of the spoon in a container of water?

To test one can "weigh" the spoon above a container of water then raise the spoon after contacting the water, raised enuff so the bottom of the spoon is level w/ the water distant from the contact area, so no water displaced.
