Before leaving it on a windshield until it's difficult to get off, try looking through it with polarized sunglasses on -it may not be so tranparent.

Been there - done that :-)

Yes, if the "glue" were absent, then the multilayers would make a mirror.

It's a ready made Canada balsam.
