Re: [Phys-l] CENCO spectrum tube system

Hi,

Here at the U of Arizona Physics
we got one near the end of the spring
semester. So it has not seen much use.
We have the carousel. Our intended use
of this first one is lecture demo, with the
thought of starting to put then in the labs.
It seems fine. It changes bulbs quickly and
keeps the clutter down, compared to a bunch
of tubes each with their own power supply.

But I have spotted two limitations:
1.) Cenco do not seem to sell a mercury
bulb for this system. The Hg bulb may
pull more power, or maybe HG bulbs in
general are going away.

2.) Using the carousel limits one to
viewing only one spectra at a time, so one
cannot do a quick comparison.

Thanks,
Roger Haar

Has anyone here used the CENCO/Sargent Welch "electrodeless" (really, encased) spectrum tube system? Opinions, please.

Thanks,
