Re: [Phys-l] Mau[n]der minimum

This is an old idea which has already been well recycled in science fiction
by several authors, notable Asimov. Well I haven't reached the cut off age
yet.

As to whether a temporary reprieve or accelerated warming will allow people
to take timely action, that is a matter of opinion. It is just too bad that
it seems to be linked to religious and political dogma. There was a recent
NYTimes article about how logic evolved to win arguments and that
irrationality is common even in people who think they are rational. Indeed
even economists are realizing that the economic dogmas do not work perfectly
because people engage in irrational behavior. In other words the market
place will in some instances actually produce the worst possible results due
to human behavior.

Yes - and all those who think the world is too crowded and
overused should be given a bonus payment that can be given to
their heirs if they use the Kervokian method to make a
personal contribution to reducing the world population.

Who on the list is going to step up first?

I think this would be a worse result. The "deniers" would
point to GCC
as a left conspiracy as a result of a Maunder amelioration. What we
need is fast and furious GCC results to convince everyone a
Manhattan
project (carbon sequestration) is necessary, plus, e.g., $10/gal.
gasoline and a 100% carbon surcharge, and world wide free
and on demand
birth control and abortion, etc. etc.

bc thinks child deduction should be changed to an increased tax.
