Re: [Phys-l] Writing a review or lab report

It was perhaps three years ago I read of an effort to offer pertinent guidance for
lab reports. There was the caution that some guidlines set forth there, could actually provoke a negative reception among conservative reviewers. Some of the highlights that I recall:
Use the ACTIVE mode. Describe the apparatus and operation in narrative, first person form.
" I next ensured the meter was set to a high voltage range before applying power" sort of thing.
Provide raw data. Handle the statistical data carefully....

Yes that sort of thing. I do not know which is best and which should be used. Well I have been asked to correct some reviews since I am the only native English speaker. However i was no good at English at School. It is a bit like the blind leading the blind, but I cannot get out of it without appearing rude.

Does anyone have a set of grammaticall guidlines I can use to guide myself?

Thanks
Alex

What rules and guidlines do you give your students? Should they
write the present or past tense?.. Ie the results were found to be

Thanks for any advice.
