Re: [Phys-l] Trebuchets, bridges, egg drops, and cardboard boats.

Cool! We have a very active robotics program in our middle school.

Students in my classes work individually (at home) building the cars and
bridges.

I've had a 'serious' robotics team now for ten years and have enjoyed
seeing the interaction between the 'geeks' who are headed for MIT.
Stanford etc. and the 'Good ol Boys' from the farms who actually know
which end of a screw driver to hold onto. (and don't mind learning to
TIG weld an Al frame even tho their previous experience has been
'just' MIG welding on their mom's drag racer. ;-)

Kids who want to learn can do wonders.
And kids teaching kids is great fun to watch.

Most kids enjoy the projects, but there are some who are not good working
with their hands or see no relevance to the topics we're studying. Often
the "smartest" students are not the best when it comes to projects.
