Some amusing sardonic terminology, borrowed from the
"special education" field:
At some places, when a faculty member spends a summer
or a sabbatical year working in industry, they call it
"mainstreaming".
Similarly, when they bring in a visiting faculty member,
or the sort of outside reviewer who is the topic of
this thread, they call it "reverse mainstreaming".
