Re: [Phys-l] battle plagiarism

I've noticed in the last 5-10 years a distressing lack of knowledge regarding the use of i.e. and e.g. as well.

Lack of knowledge of the others is a bit more understandable to me, since they are more related citations. But i.e. and e.g. also appear in regular writing and other contexts quite frequently.

Teaching at the Community College level, in NJ, I can say that most of
our students do not know how to use single quotes, double quotes, proper
citations or ellipses when they write. The use of e.g., i.e., ibid, op
cit, etc. are totally foreign to them!!

I think the quotes are necessary, and sufficient in the example given.
The page numbers are only to verify the accuracy of the quotations, not
to indicate "borrowed" material.

bc wonders how paraphrasing is indicated.

p.s. Do not high schools still teach quotation form including use of,
e.g. ibid and op cit?
