I know one Medical Physicist. He is a clinician with a
masters. One thing which I have heard from him and someone
else whom is involved with hospital tech stuff is that many
MD's are more likely to respect you if you are a PhD. You
may not quite be an equal, but anything less than a doctor
of something is just a tech.
