Re: [Phys-l] Burning wood... was Glaze Ice

I like the smell too, but I would rather breathe (which I have trouble doing with leaf-smoke in the air). One of the problems in my area is that city laws and country laws are different. I live in the city--but near the edge. With various annexations there are small pockets of county property land locked inside the city--but they can burn their leaves. That's so a mere 300 meters from me. It is also true that one such pocket (where burning is very prevalent) is right next door to a nursing home (which is in the city). Guess this helps lower the cost of dying. The same thing occurs with smoking bans--city has one, country doesn't so the complaint of bar owners is real that they do lose considerable business when forced to ban smoking (something I'm all for). ;-)

God I miss the smell of burning leaves in the fall. You can't live forever - I'd rather smell the leaves.

Grumpy this morning because the food Nazis on campus have replaced the complimentary doughnuts in the faculty lounge with fruit - I'm sick of people telling me how to live my life.
