I should say this: *Technically*, rand chooses from the [0,1) interval. Of course, you're absolutely utterly unlikely to ever produce an exact 1 using a random number generator, so this is probably a moot point in practice and in theory.
Best wishes,

Subject: [Phys-l] random numbers
Hi all-
I'm about to write my first program in python. What's the command
for a random number from a uniform [0,1] distribution? I'm running on a
Mac under OS X 10.5.7
Regards,
Jack
