The NOAA map at

shows the distribution of types of tides. The East coast is the classic 2
high, 2 low or semi-diurnal tides. The West coast is mixed and some areas
experience only diurnal tides such as the W coast of Alaska and the inner
Gulf. The tides in the Gulf are also fairly small, while the Bay of Fundy
experiences enormous tides.
