Careful there -- depends on the glass and the steel. I'd follow the advice of the cleaning people: Try on an unobtrusive area.

Remember high carbon hardened steel will definitely scratch most glasses, e.g. file used to scratch tubing before breaking.

bc done it to wine bottles also.

Why not try a razor blade? Steel will NOT scratch glass, and a good blade will take off everything including the glue. At that point a green "scrubby" will take the rest of the glue off.
