Re: [Phys-l] Relativity Question

I said:

that according to each observer, the clocks of the other reference
frame are not synchronized with each other, in fact their readings are
position-dependent, offset by (v x / c^2), and of course they are all
"running slow" by a factor of 1/sqrt(1-v^2/c^2).

That should have been:

that according to each observer, the clocks of the other reference
frame are not synchronized with each other, in fact their readings are
position-dependent, offset by gamma (v x / c^2), and of course they are all
"running slow" by a factor of gamma = 1/sqrt(1-v^2/c^2).

[The extra factor, gamma, and term, gamma v x / c^2, in the Lorentz equations which if v<<c reduce to 1 and 0, respectively, returning the Gallilean transformation equations.]
