For solids, the most commonly used collection of optical properties (n and k vs. wavelength) of materials is the collection edited by Edward D. Palik, "Handbook of Optical Constants of Solids" volumes I, II, and III.

In industry, a standard method is to use spectroscopic ellipsometry:
