Re: [Phys-l] balloon floating in air in car

I don't remember from my expts. W/ He filled balloons, so has anyone noticed w/ (best example?) a "sudden" stop, a vibration of the balloon indication a motion "sort of" like a seiche?

bc's thought engendered by an AP French problem in Vibes and Waves

p.s. of course, it could be a vibration like the bobbing of a buoy displaced from equilib?

A little disappointing that no one seems willing to pick up on this as there is some good physics involved.

The accelerating car would set up a pressure wave in the air. The time to affect the balloon would be proporsional to the car's interior dimension divided by the speed of the pressure wave (speed of sound).
