p.s. I found the article: The culture is named after the village (Harappa) which sits upon one of their great towns. Urban culture from about 2.5k B.C. Overrun about 1.5 B.C. It encompassed an area bounded by the Arabian Sea (60 miles) to the Himalayan foothills 1 K miles to the East. So far (Nov. 1953 Sci. am.) 70 villages had been found and twin capitals (each ~ 20 K pop. total ~ 100 K) separated by about 500 miles. It was a bronze culture w/ gold and precious stone jewelry. Unlike most other ancient cultures a "Rosetta Stone" has not been found. No lit. but advanced writing craft; 400 characters ~ half variants of ~ 250 characters. Mensuration: foot (13.2 ") and cubit (20.62 ") Weights: the unit 13.64 grams multiple scale curious: 1, 2, 8/3, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 160, 200, 320, 640, ... quoting: "... the enforcement of the standard over so wide an area suggests careful control and inspection."
