Joe:
I've read a number of your posts on the Elementary list serve. I'm wondering if we might be able to interest you or any of your physics colleagues in being an online mentor for the Kids' Science Challenge? It's a nationwide competition funded by the National Science Foundation.

One of our subjects is skateboard engineering, and it would be great to have a mentor who understands some of the science behind skateboarding. The idea of the competition is for kids to learn about four different science subjects (flavor science, skateboard engineering, water quality and the search for life in outer space). They chose one of these subjects and come up with a question, problem or experiment for one of our participating scientists to solve in the subject of choice. The mentors work with a group of kids online, guiding them in the process of entering the competition, answering questions as needed. It would mean a weekly commitment of an hour or two from October through January.

Starting October 1st, we'll have a number of resources available online, including mentor guidelines, activities, curricula, games, videos and entry kits.
If you know of anyone who might be interested, please have them contact me at jim@pulseplanet.com
