The point is the degree.  Vavilov died in prison.  "Jewish" science  
was verboten in NAZI germany.   Here not as serious a matter, but  
much worse than under previous administrations i.e. much more  
selective funding, interference in publication,  etc. etc.

For example when was the last time, when surveyed, "... more than  
1,100 federal government scientists reported fearing retaliation for  
raising these* kinds of concerns."?
