Re: [Phys-l] dealing with the media +- evolution

Politicians often indulge in rhetoric intended only for domestic consumption" and the reverse. e.g. Obama and free trade WRT Canada.

Should we not differentiate between boasting and credible threats?

The "Nuts" response to the question at Columbia was mistranslated*. He said homosexuals were not a problem not that they don't exist in Iran. Of course, it's very mixed. There are gay bars in Teheran and gays are persecuted. Another mistranslation:

here's another on a more serious subject:

* I'm certain I read, what I think is a "reputable" source, this, but can't google it within a reasonable time.

bc not that good a googler.

p.s.

"... But what he says, and his
nation does, seem not to be much in sync, ..."

If I understand correctly, Prez M. A. is a figurehead for the, counter-intuitively?, more conservative ruling Ayatollahs.

If the somewhat nutty Iranian president hadn't made such a point of

engaging in conjecture. I'm not arguing that Iran doesn't want
weapons; quite the contrary. It's just that unless they test a
weapon, or give some other concrete evidence, we are speculating, and
we should acknowledge it as such.
