It seems to me that Jack (and most others here) 'believe' (i.e. have
faith that) GR and QM will be united one day.

THAT seems like a useful sort of faith.

It gives something to aim for. (and is entirely harmless in my
estimation.) ;-)

It seems to me that some of us are missing Cliff's point, which is
that as scientists we don't (or shouldn't) "belive in" any theory or
concept.

Doesn't the word belief have different meanings?

I believe in god.
I believe I'll have another drink.

Two different things.
