Perhaps, you should consider to revise this statement? There is still NO good definition on energy!

On the other hand, arguments about the precise definition of heat are not worth the trouble.

Letting the students to argue on the definition of heat could sharpen their concept too.

By the way, Halliday defined Heat as "the energy that is transferred between a system and its environment..." So, it seems that he is also another advocate for "Heat is a noun". :-)
