Re: [Phys-l] Another alternative theory horror

!

Before posting I searched to check the other candidates views on
"Darwinism" and also the Pope. They all, except the minor
republicans, "have made their peace" w/ evolution. Which is better
than the population as a whole! A good thing!

Well Huckabee who is still officially in the race has publicly indicated he
does not believe in evolution. Fortunately the only Rep. candidate who will
be nominated does believe in it. In the debate it was 3/9 of the candidates
who disbelieved evolution, which is barely better than the public. Of
course the current white house occupant not only scoffs at evolution, but
also apparently believes that some of his actions are sanctioned by his god.

The more important relevant question is would a candidate support struct
separation of church and state or would they have the justice department
support schools that wish to teach crationism or ID? Huckabee said that he
would not be designing the 8th grade curriculum, but that is exactly what
some would propose as a role for the federal government. I think that this
is a much more important question than what they personally believe.

As I recall evolution wins with just barely over 50% of the public according
to recent polls, which is a large improvement of the 1950s. But in the
1950s the presidential candidates would never have tried to breach the
separation of church and state, unlike some now. At that point in time a
candidate was supposed to act in a secular fashion in office, but was
assumed to attend services.
