Re: [Phys-l] A question for the list members

¡Yo, tambien!

Now if a list member finds a good book
and wants
to tell us about a web site via a link, that's fine,

This is common on tap-l (app. usually) and much appreciated. Some firms have reps. as list members who answer questions (on the list), etc., but never make the initial post.

We have list
members who
work for commercial enterprises and they have been very good at NOT
advertising their products. Keep it that way.

The are aware that advertising would likely be counter productive in addition to being polite.

I would vote NO. This does then become commercial--one publisher
becomes
two publishers becomes an insurance company wanting to give
physicists a
'deal' (AAPT style), etc. Now if a list member finds a good book

interests should not be posting advertising here. We have list

Subject: [Phys-l] A question for the list members

I received a request from a publishing house asking for permission
to post
a
message regarding new titles that they will be publishing soon. The
titles
will be of interest to some members of the list but allowing the
announcement will add a level of commercialism to the list that
does not
exist now.

Does the list wish to be notified of upcoming titles from
publishers? Do
we
draw the line at books or should any physics-related commercial
product be
allowed an announcement on the list?
