I prefer the term net to total. For some reason total seems like a scalar
not a vector.
I am again in David's camp in focusing on the agent(s) more than on the
name.

How's about net is the overall result of multiple forces and can be
analyzed as a vector sum. All play aside, why the opposition to net -->
total?
