[Phys-l] Wire through ice experiment

Dear colleagues,

some time ago I asked advice on how to determine thermal
conductivity of a wire. I got good advice which helped me
to supervise my student's course work. Thanks!

The work contains an interesting result regarding wire through
ice experiment": it seems that thermal conductivity plays a significant role in it instead of depressing of freezing point
due to pressure. Take a look if you are interested:

(Scroll through the Finnish abstract: the rest is in English)

Mikko's paper won a prize in a competition for high school
students; the competition - "Viksu" - was organized by the
Finnish Academy of Sciences.

It would be interesting to hear your comments.

Regards,

Antti

P.S. It was great to be in Greensboro AAPT meeting and meet
some of the list members!
