Re: [Phys-l] computers

Apple thinks constant recycling if not as good as leaving it alone and using the external P/S. On mine if it's below 95% it charges to 99% + and then disconnects the battery and stays disconnected 'till the level drops below 95% from using w/ o the charger. It recommends occasionally discharging the batt. 'till the computer detects it's dangerously low and goes to sleep. Then one plugs in the supply 'till it's fully charged. This resets the charge level detector.

bc, who still has a charger w/ an auto discharge function for thos oldies.

My tech guy also said it is best to charge the battery to 100%, unplug,
use the computer, and let the battery drain to nearly 0%, then recharge
again. He said this will extend the battery lifetime, rather than to just
keep the plug in all the time, or to not let the battery completely drain
before recharging.

Thoughts?

That's a myth. It's a legend handed down from the days of NiCd batteries that had bizarre memory issues. Those days are long
gone. Laptops don't use NiCd batteries anymore. And FWIW modern
NiCd batteries are much better behaved.
