[Phys-l] Perseids : night of August 12th

NASA wrote:

Got a calendar? Circle this date: Sunday, August 12th. Next to the circle write "all night" and "Meteors!"

That's from from http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2007/11jul_greatperseids.htm

The actual number of meteors isn't expected to be above normal, but
due to the new moon they should be more visible than they have been
in recent years.

A more detailed, scholarly analysis can be found at:

I particularly liked their Fig. 2, showing who gets the best view
of the peak of the shower.

On the other hand, keep in mind that the Perseid "peak" is quite
broad; there is noticeable activity for /days/ before and after
the nominal peak, as mentioned at e.g.
http://skytour.homestead.com/met2007.html
everyone should get a good show on peak night.

by which they presumably meant everyone in the northern hemisphere.
