Re: [Phys-l] An Unsolved Color Problem

Again using Photoshop (or some other such program) one can crop this
picture and produce two sub-pictures, each of which shows just the
square A or the square B, without their surroundings. Viewing these
two pictures side by side, one sees that they are obviously the same
shade of gray.

| By opening this picture in Photoshop, one can directly read the RGB
| pixel values at any point in the picture. This directly yields the
| triplet (120,120,120) for pixels within both squares A and B. I'm
| sure there are other programs, besides Photoshop, that can do the
same
| measurement (eg, Windows' Paint program?).

||
|| I haven't "solved" the problem of how the two squares can appear to
| have

| coding
|| techniques to hide my solution.
||
|| I would, however, appreciate an (uncoded) explanation as to how the
|| squares can appear so different in color to the eye and yet be the
| same
|| color from anyone who knows the answer or can figure it out.
