Actually, Al Bartlett showed that oil production has been rising more slowly than population since about 1980.

An interesting bit of information to include with the increase of cheap energy production over the last 2 centuries is the fact: that as energy production was increased population increased at the same rate although it lagged a few years behind. With that bit of information, some interesting questions can be generated.
1.. What happens to population as energy production decreases?
2.. If you conclude, the population will decrease, by what means will the population decrease?
