The flight control system made interesting reading.
He used IR sensors for pitch and roll control.
He mentioned a figure under $120 for the IR sensors.

Lets see: if you were to use the Harbor Freight wide cone
IR thermometers at $9.95 ea in dual differential
configuration, it looks like 4 X $9.95 = $39.80 would
handle that part of the autopilot quite nicely.
