[Phys-l] collapsing field in inductor



I wish your opinions (analyses) on this simple demonstration posted on another list.

A lamp and inductor in parallel are powered by a DC supply (battery) thru a switch. Opening the switch causes the lamp to flash. (nothing surprising here). However, if the switch is operated in a strong mag. field, e.g. large magnetron magnet, the flash is brighter and burns out some bulbs, e.g. 25 W (110 V. I presume)
