Falling is a common term which can have a variety of definitions. I would
say that the better term would be accelerating, which is a well defined
physics term. Of course free fall is generally understood to be
accelerating due only to the presence of a gravitational field, so it is a
good term. There is not much sense arguing over a common term. Whether
free fall means falling is certainly disputable.
