They are rolling the ball around in their hand so as to get the correct grib they want to match the pitch they are going to throw. Also this hides from the batter what the grib is, since by knowing the grib the batter will know what kind of pitch is coming. Golf is a great game.

OK, squinting seems reasonable, but why do some pitchers bend over with the ball behind their back/butt -- This seems so goofy -- Of course the whole game seems goofy to me -- Which is worse, baseball or golf?
