Re: [Phys-l] climate change and climate scientists - editorial

Hi all-
"Authoritative" is an editorial word that tells us tha author's bias without communicating other information. Would we all consider an opinion on global warming by Boris Winterhalter authoritative? I doubt it. Here's his publication list taken from his web site:

Other papers, etc.

Boris Winterhalter, Aarno Kotilainen, Ingemar Cato, Bernt Kjellin, Martin Jakobsson and Yngve Kristoffersen, 1997. Marine Geology of the Continental Shelf Off the Riiser-Larsen Ice Shelf, Eastern Weddell Sea, Antarctica. In: FINNARP-95/96 Workshop : scientific progress reports, Tvärminne, Hanko, Finland 9 to 10 December 1996. Antarctic Reports of Finland. Report 6, 39-54.

Juergen Alheit, Andreas Lehmann, and Boris Winterhalter, 2000. The North Atlantic Climate Influence on the Baltic Sea Environment

Equipment descriptions

Boris Winterhalter, 2000. OSCOR - The New Undistrubed Sandy Sediment Sampler

Boris Winterhalter, 2001. GEMAX - The Ultimate Corer for Soft Sediments
------------------------------------------------------------------
It appears that the target of his attack is a movie or something by Al Gore, whose peer-reviewed scientific publications are minimal. I would not look to either Gore or Winterhalter for an authoritative discussion of global warming. I do recommend the Nature publication by the group that analyzed the Greenland ice core (I recall a recent similar one from Antarctica) as a starting point to learn about the science involved.

Jack

Why would one go to an advocacy group [realclimate.org] to find a

's ad hominem, but it is relevant.)

May I suggest a critical, authoritative critique on GCM's to this
group?:

This presentation, given by a respected atmospheric scientist, is
intended for a scientifically literate audience. It is appropriate
for consumption by members of this group. You will understand the
consternation of many competent climate scioentists from this paper.

A much more balanced review of Gore's movie is available at:

Make sure all of that gets into your browser....
