Here is an energy argument. Consider a battery connected to
a resistor. Ohm's law tells us that V = IR, but equivalently,
V I = (I^2)R The joule heating described by the right side
dissipates to the surroundings, so that this process has a direction
to it.
Can consideration of energy sources and dissipation provide
a direction for causality ?
