Re: [Phys-l] iPod music compression

I stand corrected by John Clement's account of how iTunes arrives at the
text information for a CD.

All of my computers are connected 24/7 to the Internet by DSL, T1, or
wireless. Every time I inserted a CD for converting to AAC in iTunes,
the text information "magically appeared." I knew some CDs had this
info on the CD, and I assumed iTunes was getting the info from the CD.

I have confirmed that iTunes is not getting the info from the CD. Just
like John said, it is coming from the Internet. Specifically, it is
coming from the site www.gracenote.com

It works so seamlessly it is amazing. If you are interested in this
stuff, the Gracenote web page is worth a visit.
