[Phys-L] Re: 'hyperspace' engine

Another try w/o ? those =20

bc

From my anecdotal study, I find ST mirrors our society. e.g. Klingon =
Soviet empire, third world ("backward") countries have the raw
materials, etc.

bc, reader of "How to Read Donald Duck".

"Is Walt Disney that innocent? Why are there no parents in his comic
books? How come the natives and savages always give up their riches to
the duck invaders? What are Huey, Dewey, and Louie doing in Vietnam? The
Chilean people began to ask these and other questions in revolutionary
Chile in 1970. This seminal deconstruction was, of course, banned and
burned during the fascist period in Chile—and is still banned here in
America (Disney will sue into oblivion anyone who publishes it). A
product of the political struggle, the book is a profound and
imaginative critique of the sacred cow of children's culture: the Disney
myth. Isn't it time you discovered why the only way you can read it here
is via bootleg."

Well, two comments: Firstly, it's "Trekker", not "trekkie", and the
deposits of dilithium always seemed to be found on planets with "backward"
civilizations (perhaps accounting for the skimpy outfits) by both the
Federation and either the Romulans or the Klingons simultaneously, so there
was always a struggle for control. Amazing, given the size of the galaxy,
that everybody ended up at the same spot at the same time <g>! So I guess I
raised you a geeky, and we're now at geeky squared!

Just a little more geeky:
dilithium was a material that would allow antimatter to pass through
itself and be focused to create the warp field.
Rare, but frequently found in the near vicinity of scantily clad
beautiful women on exotic planets.

What is dilithium?

In the fictional "Star Trek" universe, dilithium is that piece of
techno-babble which permits the star ships to travel at warp speed -
i.e. faster than light.
